Tuning the Toy Mouse: A Poetry Workshop

Using Nell Zink’s playful line, "What is a poem, if not a toy mouse viewed from an angle that makes it appear to take over the world?" this supportive poetry workshop will explore the human condition and what it means to be alive in the 21st century. We will craft the detailed, specific experiences of our everyday lives into poems that capture the universal and glorious—poems that ring with emotional truth. The week will offer intriguing prompts and warm, encouraging feedback. Using hand-selected contemporary poems as models, we will discuss craft and immerse ourselves in the process of writing. Bring your wild mind to the blank page, or breathe new life into previously written pieces that don’t yet delight you.           Limited to 12 participants

The Poets Circle

This 6-week workshop series will use inspiring writing prompts and examples of contemporary poetry to examine the way imagery, diction, metaphor, sound, and structure influence meaning. Each week, students will write new poems to share with the group and receive constructive feedback in a safe and nurturing environment.
Appropriate for both new and more experienced poets, the goal of this workshop is to encourage experimentation as we support the growth and development of each poet's unique style and poetic vision.
